Members are elected to a 4 year term.

Mayor Bob Corby

Mayor Corby, Mayor

Bob Corby is a lifelong resident of Pittsford. He is a graduate of the Syracuse University School of Architecture. Bob’s professional background includes architecture, preservation planning, and urban design. Bob has lectured on both planning and historic preservation in communities across New York State.

Bob has served as mayor since 1993. During that time he has worked tirelessly to shift the Village’s planning emphasis toward traditional neighborhood design techniques. He initiated an Erie Canal Corridor Plan that resulted in the adoption of a New York State Local Waterfront Revitalization Program and the completion of six capital projects to improve the village’s waterfront. Bob chaired a volunteer committee that produced an award-winning village comprehensive plan. When faced with the possibility of losing both the high school and library, Bob worked closely with School District and Town officials to identify the means to keep these important institutional anchors in the village. Under Bob’s direction, the village’s downtown revitalization efforts were recognized as the best in New York State in 2005 by the National League of Cities.

As mayor, Bob sought out nationally acclaimed traffic calming expert Dan Burden to assist in developing a comprehensive traffic calming plan. In the years since the plan was developed, Bob has worked closely with the Village Department of Public Works and the New York State Department of Transportation on implementation of the plan’s recommendations. Bob has also been responsible for updating of the village’s zoning code; expanding public parking; developing a phased decorative street lighting plan; and completing a street tree inventory and aggressive tree planting program.

Bob has had a lifelong interest in local history and annually gives walking tours of the village each spring. He began public service when he was appointed to the Village Architectural and Preservation Review Board in 1987. He is a member of the Board of Historic Pittsford. He oversaw the phased rehabilitation of historic Village Hall which received an Award of Merit from the Landmark Society of New York State in 2006. Bob’s passion for history has influenced the direction of Village policy. Under his leadership, the Village has received Certified Local Government status from the New York State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation and has been designated a Preserve America community by the federal government.

In his role as mayor, Bob serves on the Monroe County Council of Governments and has served two terms as president of the Monroe County Association of Villages. In 2006, Bob was appointed to the Executive Committee of the New York Council of Mayors (NYCOM) the organization representing cities and villages in New York State.
